CHIP SHOTS: PN-G sophomore Braden Bailey has won again, this time in the Southeast Texas Junior Winter Tour tournament at Idylwild. Bailey, however, needed a sudden death playoff to claim first place, after he and Lumberton’s Bryce Shaver shot one-over-par 73s. Other flight winners included Josh Elmore of Port Arthur (85 in Boys 14-15), Karlei Hemler of Groves, who seems to win as often as Bailey, (82 in Girls 16-18), Peyton Weems of Lumberton (83 in Boys 12-13), Jack Burke of Orange (42 in Boys 10-11, 9 holes) and Micah DePew of Kountze over Will Van Pelt of Nederland in a putt off (33 in Boys 7-9, 6 hole modified). Next tourney stop is Saturday at Belle Oaks . . . Mike Goodwin of Wildwood scored his second ever hole in one last week, when he aced the 148-yard, 4th at Wildwood Golf Club. Goodwin swung a 6-iron. The shot was witnessed by Marvin Fannin, Gains Wolcott and Johnny Mecom . . . Barry Jackson and Ed Boone tied at plus 4 in the Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Norm Shannon was third at plus 1. Jackson won closest to the pin on No. 15. In the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks, Major Rising won with plus 2. Bill Worsham and Mike Hebert tied for second at 0. Joe Vanderweg took closest to the pin on No. 8 . . . The team of Rick Pritchett, Tony Borel, Mark Petry and Ron Overstreet won the Babe Zaharias DogFight at 15&3. Second at 14&1 was the team of James Moore, Jim Cooper, Billy Thillet and Paul Duplantis. Closest to the hole winners were Adam Noel (No. 2), Roland Burris (No. 7), Brad Royer (No. 12) and Joe Gongora (No. 15) . . . The Senior Game at The Babe was played in a 9/9 2-person team format. In First Flight, there was a tie at minus 3 between Rick Pritchett-Gene Hardy and David English-Mark Petry. The duo of E.T. Robicheaux-Dickie Robinson took Second Flight at minus 2, finishing two shots clear of Harry Green-Jim Cooper. There was a tie in Third Flight at plus four between Maurice Ross-Bob Lloyd and Steve Richard-John Overland. Closest to the pin winners were Harold Wilkinson (No. 2), Charlie Huckaby (No. 7), Don MacNeil (No. 12) and Pat Waite (No. 15) . . . The Super Saturday Game at The Babe was played in 2-ball format. On the front nine, the team of Cody Metts, Wes McDonald, Alex Espinoza and Larry Vicknair won with minus 6. On the back, there was a tie at minus 1 between the team of Earl Richard, Adam Noel, Larry Johnson and Harold Wilkinson and the foursome of Paul Flores, Ivory Hatch, Mark Petry and Glenn Marino . . . In The Babe Senior 50 Plus Game, which was formerly played at The Patch, there was a two-way tie at minus two on the front between the team of H. Guidry, Gene Hardy, R. Sibley and Ron Theriot and the team of Earl Richard, Bill Draughon, J. Cooper and Tommy Lemire. The Richard team won the back in minus 2. In the Jan. 22 game, there was a two-way tie at minus 1 on the front between the team of Jack Calhoun, David Arnaud, D. Darbonne and Robert Lynch and the team of Tony Trevino, Theriot, Gerald Huebel and Don MacNeal. The back was won at minus 4 by the team of Adam Noel, R. Darbonne, Larry Johnson and Lemire. The 50 plus game has been moved to Tuesdays on a permanent basis . . . Babe Zaharias pro Ed Campbell is currently putting together a master list of area tournaments for publication in Golf Plus.
