PORT ARTHUR — Can’t think of a better way to start today’s notepad than to mention last week’s passing of good friend and avid golfer Jack Faubion. The Nederland vet was a regular for years in a couple of the weekend games at Belle Oaks and achieved every golfer’s dream in 2001 when he scored a double eagle two on the par 5, 2nd hole. Knowing how much Jack loved the game, and having played many rounds with him, writing about his double eagle was something I did with great enthusiasm. It was quite an honor to attend the visitation and see the double-eagle story framed and on a stand near the casket. Rest in peace, my friend . . . Jim Robinson of Taylor Landing hit a jackpot of sorts on the L’Auberge Casino’s Contraband Bayou Course in Lake Charles last week. Robinson holed a pitching wedge from 109 yards for an eagle 2 on the 10th hole. The shot was witnessed by Bill Taylor and Rob Rogers  . . . The Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks ended in a three-way tie at plus 3 between Barry Jackson, Norm Shannon and Ron Somerville. Shannon was the closest to the pin winner on No. 8 . . . Christman (15&3). Closest to the pin winners were Kenneth Belaire (No. 2), Richard Sibley (No. 7), Caylon Walker (No. 12) and Noel (No. 15) . . . The Senior Game at The Babe was played in a flighted, two person scramble. In First Flight, the duo of Larry Morris-Pat Waite won with minus 7, finishing two shots clear of Eddie Delk-Rick Pritchett and Jim Jordan-Harrell Guidry.
