West golf notepad: Cap Hollier latest to bag albatross

PORT ARTHUR — Cap Hollier joined the ever expanding albatross club last week when he holed his second shot with a driver on the 450-yard, par 5, 9th at The Patch. It was the second double eagle on that hole in the past six weeks — Bob Briggs made the other one — and the fifth reported to the Golf Plus in 2012. The shot was witnessed by Harville Strohm and Ryan Thompson . . . Hollier’s 2 trumped the 1 scored at Babe Zaharias by 78-year-old Adam Noel. Noel of Groves, using a 5-iron on the 148-yard, 2nd, scored his 3rd hole in one. The ace, which came during the DogFight, was witnessed by Rick Pritchett, Joby Irvine and Bob Sheldon . . . PN-G and Lamar ex Chris Stroud will be trying to reverse a troubling trend when he tees it up Thursday in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic Hospitals Classic at Disney World. It’s the final PGA Tour event of 2012. Stroud has missed four consecutive cuts and five of the last six. He’s No. 103 on the money list with $893,230, after fininshing No. 85 and winning $1,096,449 in 2011 . . . Two of the area’s rising juniors picked up victories last week in the USSSA Golf Full House Classic II at Kosati Pines in Kinder, La. Bryce Shaver fired a 36-hole score of 148 (77-71) to win boys 14-15 while Karlei Hemler played above her age group in Girls 15-18 and won with a 158 (79-79) . . . The team of Sterling McDonald, Don McDonald, James Odom and Daniel Peters combined for a 55 to win first place in the Nederland Westernaires Scramble at Belle Oaks. Closest to the pin winners were Mitch Macon (No. 3) Bill Hammon (No. 8) and Don McDonald (No. 15). Felicia Sauceda won the long dirve on No. 4 . . . The Senior 50 Plus Game at the Patch was played in a 2 ball format. On the front, there was a tie at minus 6 between the team of J. Tompkins, Vin Oliva, Pat Waite and Harville Strohm and the team of Charles Heider, Mike Melancon, Joe Castleman and Bud Auffurth. On the back, there was a tie at minus seven beween the Heider team and the fousome of Charles Cooksey, Bill Draughon, Charles Scott and Glen Frederick. As of Wednesday, Nov. 14, the starting time for the Senior 50 Plus Game will be 9 a.m. . . . Ron Somerville finished plus 6 to win the Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Glen LeBlanc was second at plus 2, while Bill Worsham finished third at plus 1. Barry Jackson was the closest to the pin winner on No. 15. In the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks, Jackson won with plus 6. Jim Brown placed second at plus 3, with Major Rising and Somerville tied for third at plus 2. LeBlanc was the closest to the pin winner on No. 15 . . . The team of Hilario Padia, Mark Petry, Dillard Darbonne and Harold Wilkinson won the Babe Zaharias DogFight with 18&2. Second at 17&2 was the team of Paul Allemand, Jack Pittman, Harry Green and Gary Anderson. Closest to the hole winners were Adam Noel (ace on No. 2), Roy Martinez (No. 7), Steve Picou (No. 12) and Billy Thillet (No. 15) . . . The Senior Game at The Babe was played in a four person points format and was won at plus 7 by the team of Harrell Guidry, Gerald Huebel, Dickie Robinson and Dwayne Morrison. Tying for second at plus 6 was the team of Rick Pritchett, Harry Green, Ron Sciarilla and Pete Reobroi and the foursome of Bill Hanley, Ron Overstreet, Larry Rogers and Maurice Ross. Closest to the pin winners were Eddie Delk (No. 2), Reobroi (No. 7), Gene Noble (No. 12) and Tony Trevino (No. 15) . . . The Super Saturday Game at The Babe was played in a 2 ball format. On the front, the team of Larry Padia, Craig Fontenot, Harry Green and Richard Sibley won with minus 8. On the back, the foursome of Adam Noel, Raymond Darbonne, Gerald Huebel and Steve Cameron prevailed at minus 5 . . . Area juniors are reminded the registration is ongoing for the second stop in The First Tee of the Golden Triangle/Southeast Texas Junior Tour Fall Finish Series at Wildwood. The event is open to junors ages 7 to 18 and has an entry fee of $20. Forms can be picked up at the Babe Zaharias golf shop or downloaded from ww.stjga.com. The Southeast Texas Senior Championship, scheduled for 36 holes over Babe Zaharias and Bayou Din last week, was postponed because of a lack of entries. Plans are to reschedule it for next spring.
