Memorial capsule: The Titans may have finished third in the 21-5A standings and second in both total offense and total defense to North Shore, but led the district in both passing offense and pass defense. Memorial was the only team in the district to pass for over 2,000 yards and the only team to allow less than 1,000 passing. … Memorial also finished second in interceptions with 10. Last season, the Titans had 16 interceptions in 10 games….Quarterback Ricky Fisk finished fifth in the district in rushing yards with 897 yards and second in the district with 12 rushing TDs. He was easily the district’s leading passer, throwing for two more TDs (20) than the next-closest passer and for over 500 more yards than the next QB on the list. Fisk also completed the second-highest percentage of his passes, while attempting 52 more passes than second-most prolific passer. … Junior receiver Roderic Rucker was the only wideout in the district to top 10 receiving TDs. He finished first in receiving yards in the district while finishing two catches behind teammate John Leday (44) for the 21-5A receptions lead.

Manvel capsule: The Mavericks had a smooth transition to Class 5A, going 9-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of Galena Park North Shore in the second game of the season. Since then, the Mavericks have won eight straight and are now 35-5 in the past three seasons. … The last time Manvel missed the playoffs was in 2009, when the Mavericks went 5-5 and 3-4 in district under head coach Kirk Martin in the school’s first varsity season. That was also the first year that Manvel had a senior class, as the school opened for the 2006-2007 school year with just a 9th and 10th grade campus…. The Mavericks had a shot at a perfect 16-0 season last year, reaching the Class 4A Division II state championship game. Manvel fell 49-28 to Aledo and University of Texas back Johnathan Gray, who rushed for 247 yards and a touchdown. … This year, Manvel quarterback Shane McCarley led the state in passing touchdowns with 46, completing 63 percent of his passes and throwing for 3,381 yards. McCarley had three receivers with 30 or more catches. … Senior Carlos Thompson caught 56 passes for 1,069 yards and 15 TDs.. Fellow senior Kyrion Parker also had double-digit TD catches with 36 for 840 and 11 TDs.
