Seahawks seek fourth consecutive win

The Port Arthur News

PORT ARTHUR —  For the first time this season, the Lamar State College-Port Arthur Seahawks will face an opponent eye to eye.

Lone Star College-Cy Fair visits the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur today for a 4 p.m. non-conference game. The Fighting Ducks come in with plenty of height to spare, with 6-foot-9 centers Reggis Onwukamuche and Nafa Maring.

By far this season, the Seahawks have been the tallest players on the court, with 7-1 Anthony Allen towering over opponents, often by a foot or more. Allen, a freshman, showed signs of things to come in the Hawks’ game this past Wednesday as he powered to the basket on offense and blocked would-be baskets on defense.

Ty Allen has been handling the lion’s share of the scoring for the Seahawks with four straight double-figure games, hitting for 26 against LSC-North Harris on Wednesday. Also averaging in double-figures is Kieran Woods and Jamal Shabazz.

This is the fifth in a six-game home stand for the Seahawks, culminating in a homecoming showdown on Tuesday against NJCAA Region XIV opponent Tyler at the Parker Center. Tipoff for that game is 7 p.m.

Tyler was 4-1 for the season heading into a two-game tournament this weekend. The game Tuesday also represents the Apaches’ conference opener. Tyler was picked preseason to finish fourth in the Region XIV North Zone while Lamar State was picked seventh in the South Zone.
