Mid-County Babe Ruth goes 3-1 in pool play at World Series

COVINGTON COVE, Ala. — Everything has to be going according to plan for the Mid-County Babe Ruth 16-18 year old All-Stars.

Well, besides the rain that washed away a swath of pool play.

Other than the poor weather, things have gone great for the Mid-County all-stars, as the team has gone 3-1 in the National League pool, clinching a top seed in the bracket play starting Tuesday.

Mid-County beat Columbia Basin, Wash. 2-1 on Sunday, after the game was rained out on Saturday.

The team then came back and beat Cape Cod 1-0 to clinch that top seed. Mid-County then lost to Fond Du Lac, Wisc. 7-6 on Monday to finish with a 3-1 record.

Mid-County advances to play in the single-elimination championship bracket. The No. 1 seed from the National and American Divisions get a first-round bye and will play the winner of the second- and third-seeds on Wednesday. Mid-County’s game will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In the game against Washington, Mid-County had to go into extra innings to pick up the victory. In the bottom of the ninth, West Brook’s Mike Norris hit a single up the middle to score Nederland’s Seth Barrow for the game-winning run.

PN-G’s Aaron Graham threw all nine innings in the game for Mid-County to pick up the victory.

Against Cape Cod, LC-M’s Ryan Carline got the victory, allowing one hit and no runs in seven innings.
