BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Bridge City wins 23rd district title

BRIDGE CITY — Bridge City 4, Hamshire-Fannett 2

BRIDGE CITY — The No. 2 Bridge City Cardinals kept their perfect District 21-3A mark intact Tuesday night and clinched the title by nipping the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 4-2 in District 21-3A play at Cardinal Field.

It is the 23rd district title in school history for the baseball team.

The Cardinals (19-2-2, 9-0) struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third with a pair of hits.

Jonah Watts roped a single and scored off a Chase Shugart RBI single. Shugart ended up scoring on a wild pitch.

Bridge City tacked on two more runs in the fourth frame.

Sage Elmore drew a walk and ended up scoring off a Trevor Gunn RBI single. Hunter Uzzle capped it with a RBI single of his own.

The Longhorns (6-4) picked up a pair of runs in the fourth.

Bryson McFarland was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Bridge City finished with nine hits while the Longhorns had five.

The Cardinals will play host Hardin-Jefferson Thursday.

West Orange-Stark 6, Orangefield 2

ORANGEFIELD — The West Orange-Stark Mustangs moved into a second-place tie and clinched a playoff spot with a 6-2 District 21-3A victory over the Orangefield Bobcats at Orangefield High School Tuesday night.

WO-S (19-4, 6-3) scored four runs in the seventh inning to turn back the Bobcats (0-10 in district).

Grant Anderson was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Mustangs with two RBI. Aidan Anderson was also 3-for-4 with a double while Peyton Robertson also had a double.

Aidan Anderson went the distance on the mound for WO-S, striking out 13 while allowing just two hits.

The Mustangs will visit Buna Friday with a 6 p.m. varsity start.
