PA’s Charles to host football camp next week

PORT ARTHUR — For Kansas City running back and former Port Arthur Memorial Titan Jamaal Charles, “Family Matters.”

  That’s both the name of his charitable foundation and how he feels about giving back to his hometown, as the Jamaal Charles “Family Matters” Family Foundation will be hosting its annual football camp this week at Port Arthur Memorial high school.

  The two day camp will be held on Friday and Saturday, with the camp on Friday going from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students from kindergarten to 3rd grade are invited to attend the camp on Friday with students from grades 4-12 invited to attend both days.

  Parents interested can register online for the free camp at until Thursday with on-site registration on Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Students must complete and print the waiver form to bring with them to the camp.

  The camp will be held under the direction of Derrick Scott’s Clutch Time Sports and will include professional instruction, player talks, speed work, team play and competition with lunch provided daily.

  Many of Charles’ friends and teammates are expected to be in attendance, including Brandon Albert (Kansas City Chiefs), Glen Dorsey (Chiefs), Derrick Johnson (Chiefs), Jeremy Horne (Chiefs), Earl Thomas (Seattle Seahawks), James Johnson (Pittsburgh Steelers), Jonathan Babineaux (Atlanta Falcons), Anthony Collins (Cincinnati Bengals), Danny Gorrer (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Jordan Babineaux.
