The Nederland Bulldogs were reminded Thursday they have to bring their “A” game if they are going to remain in first place of District 20-4A.
That is because Beaumont Ozen almost pulled off a major upset as Nederland need a two-run fourth inning to ensure a 3-1 Bulldogs victory. Nederland is now 9-3 in 20-4A play, a half game ahead of both Vidor and Port Neches-Groves. The Indians travel to face the Pirates Friday.
Nederland broke past a 1-1 tie when Braden Nevala was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Korey Clark then scored when Colton Broussard hit into a fielder’s choice to make it 3-1.
Austin Krautz went 2-for-3 with a RBI triple in the bottom of the second to give Nederland a 1-0. Ozen answered with a run in the top of the third.
Nevala walked twice for the Bulldogs and Chase Kemp and Colby Price each delievered doubles.
Jace Bordelon notched the win on the mound off 96 pitches, 75 for strikes. Bordelon was very efficient by throwing 24 first pitch strikes to 27 batters. He struck out 11 and gave up six hits and one run.
Ozen stranded six runners in the game.
