— Nederland and Port Arthur Memorial both have a lot to be proud of after Wednesday’s area track meets in the 4A and 5A classifications.

Both teams have quite a few qualifiers headed to next week’s regional meet.

Unfortunately, the Port Neches-Groves track program was shut out at the area meet held at C.E. King High School.

5A Area Meet

Tayylor Labrie is a triple qualifier for the regional meet.

Labrie won the long jump with a leap of 23.1 and came in second in the triple jump with a leap of 45.5. He was third in the 300 hurdles.

The Memorial 4x100 meter relay team of Jacorie Jones, Kameron Martin, Corey Dauphine and Quantae Conners placed third while Phillip Cole was fourth in the 800 meter dash.

Dauphine came really close to beating his 2014 area best in the 200 meter dash on Wednesday with a time of 21.63 to win the event. His best time this year is 21.6.

The Titans team had two events not go the way Memorial had planned going into the meet.

Memorial’s 4x200 meter relay team was disqualified for dropping the baton. The Titans went into the area meet with the area’s best time of 1:26.12.

Martin also did not qualify for regionals after finishing fifth in the 100 meter dash.

4A Area Meet

It was a big day for the Nederland boys and girls track teams as both squads have a number of qualifiers for the regional meet.

Travis Gallier won the boys pole vault with a leap of 12-09.

Nederland high jumpers Evan Litvik and Ashish Marediya finished in a second place tie with jumps of 6-00.

Connor Perkins moved on with a 51.32 in the 400 meter dash, good enough for third place.

Ryan Roebuck also advanced with a time of 4:31.14 to place fourth in the 1,600 meter run.

Nederland’s 4x200 meter relay team of Brenden Babino, Adam Cessna, Adam Richard and Austin Krautz finished fourth with a time of 1:31.82. It was good enough to beat Port Neches-Groves’ team that had a time of 1:34.98.

Nederland’s Emma Forsythe placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.27, it was just ahead of teammate Gabrielle Gutierrez’s 16.30 who came in fifth.

Gutierrez did qualify for regionals in the long jump with a third place leap of 16-01.50.

Courtney Noel came in fourth in the  triple jump with a finish of 34-10.50.

Marissa Clement qualified for regionals in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.23. Kingwood Park’s Ivanna Soto finished fourth and kept Nederland’s Kinsey Miller from advancing. Soto had a time of 47.27 and Miller came in at 47.35.

The Lady Bulldogs 4x400 meter relay team of Clement, Miller, Breanna Wyble and Brittany Whitehead finished fourth with a time of 4:03.84.

Marlie Lee was a double qualifier in both the shot put and the discus. Lee was sixth after the prelims in the shot put but was fourth when it mattered with a throw of 34.03.50. Her discus throw of 104-07.75 was also good enough for fourth.
