Bridge City 6, Buna 0
BUNA — The Bridge City Cardinals stayed perfect in District 21-3A play by blanking the Buna Cougars 6-0 Friday night at Cougar Field.
Chase Shugart was masterful on the mound for the Cardinals (17-2-2, 7-0). He went the distance, striking out 14 Cougars (2-5 in district) in the process while allowing a mere four hits.
Shugart was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a RBI.
Kyle Bergeron went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ashton Hunter was 1-for-1 with two RBI and walked twice. Trevor Gunn was 1-for-3 with a RBI.
BC coach Chad Landry was proud of the way the Cafds moved runners as they completed five sacrifice bunts.
The Cardinals will have a bye Tuesday and will be at home next Friday against Silsbee.
Hamshire-Fannett 1, West Orange-Stark 0
WEST ORANGE — The Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns pulled into a third-place tie with the West Orange-Stark Mustangs in the District 21-3A race with a 1-0 victory over the Mustangs at Anderson Field Friday night.
Aidan Anderson pitched an excellent game for the Mustangs (16-4, 4-3) in the tough loss as he allowed just three hits while striking out 11.
The Longhorns (4-3 in district) got their run in the sixth by getting a double, a sacrifice and scored on an error.
Peyton Robertson and Tanner Hogan got the Mustangs’ two hits.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back Tuesday when they visit Hardin-Jefferson.
