PORT ARTHUR — It was an exciting weekend of football starting Friday night with high school and ending on Sunday with the NFL. In the middle was this little game between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Did your team win or lose? No matter what, this was a great weekend to be a sports fan.
Nederland gets impressive win
This game could have turned out a lot different after Angleton opened the game with two quick scores. The Nederland defense settled down and eventually the Bulldogs won the game 35-21.
Credit the Nederland offensive line the most for the win because the big guys up front were the stars of the show. Kendrick Hopkins and Marcus Barton were able to find holes in the defense and rushed for 251 yards together. Barton came up huge in the fourth quarter with a game-ending drive that took over six minutes off the clock.
Sage Seay was the star on defense with two monster sacks and two fumble recoveries. Seay’s second recovery was returned for 61 yards and ended an Angleton drive which could have tied the game.
Titans show off rushing attack
Last week Port Arthur Memorial went defensive against the Beaumont Ozen Panthers. This week the Titans still played great defensive, yet got a running back over the century mark for the first time this season.
Kameron Martin picked up 100 yards on 12 carries for the Titans with two touchdowns. Memorial rushed for 222 yards as a team on 33 carries. Memorial had six rushing touchdowns in the 49-20 victory over Houston Westside.
Westside came in with big offensive numbers, especially from quarterback Michael Haywood. Haywood was held by the Titans defense to 90 yards rushing and 173 yards passing. Memorial had three interceptions Friday night and also recovered a Westside fumble.
Memorial will look to put another complete game together when the Titans play host to Houston Bellaire.
