Nederland senior Carson Raines will be playing college baseball for Angelina Junior College, after deciding on the two-year school last week. Raines, who has struck out 61 in 40 2/3 innings this season, will primarily pitch for the Roadrunners.
“It’s a nice facility,” Raines said. “I went there on a visit a couple of weeks ago. I’m used to the environment up there. I’m excited and blessed to get a chance to play at the next level.”
Raines started at shortstop last season and has played both shortstop and been Nederland’s Friday night starter this season. He joins a list of Southeast Texas alumni to attend Angelina, including Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholtz.
“We talked about that when I was up there, ” Raines said. “The guy who showed me around is from Bridge City, so it was a very nice fit for me.”
Raines and the Bulldogs will host Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 7 p.m. Friday.
