Memorial downs Channelview
CHANNELVIEW — The Port Arthur Memorial baseball team beat Channelview 5-1 on Tuesday in District 21-5A play.
Robert Howard allowed one run and two hits in 7 innings while striking out five to pick up the victory.
Teammate Jokusay Nakao was 3 for 3 wiht a home run and an RBI while Ramiro Sanchez was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Gama Martinez was 2 for 3 with a double while Howard was 1 for 3 at the plate.
Memorial (10-10, 3-5) hosts North Shore at 7 p.m. Friday.
PN-G beats LC-M
PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves baseball team beat Little Cypress-Mauriceville 11-1 on Tuesday in District 20-4A play.
With the victory, PN-G remains in second place, a game behind district leader Nederland.
PN-G (12-10, 7-2) will host Beaumont Central at 7 p.m. Friday.
Nederland gets road win against Livingston
LIVINGSTON — The Nederland baseball team beat Livingston 3-2 on Tuesday in District 20-4A play.
Mitchell Sanderson got the start for the Bulldogs, striking out 14 to pick up the victory.
Nederland (18-3, 8-1) will host LC-M at 7 p.m. Friday.
PN-G girls shut out Vidor
PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves softball team beat Vidor 1-0 in eight innings on Tuesday in District 20-4A play.
Nicole Thorn scored the game’s only run, scoring on a ground ball from Ricki Gilbert that was thrown over the Vidor first baseman’s head.
Shelby Valentine picked up a complete game victory for PN-G, striking out two in 8 innings.
PN-G (16-9, 8-4) will travel to Beaumont Ozen at 7 p.m. Friday.
Nederland beats Ozen
BEAUMONT — The Nederland softball team bounced back from a loss to PN-G on Saturday by beating Beaumont Ozen 9-0 Tuesday in District 20-4A play.
Nederland’s Tori Cooper allowed one hit and no runs in 4 innings of work for the victory. Cooper also struck out six and had two hits, a walk and a home run at the plate
Teammates Savana Guidry and Jensen Richard each had triples.
Nederland (20-9, 8-4) will host Lumberton at 7 p.m. Friday.

Mid County Babe Ruth set to host Southwest Regional
The Mid County Babe Ruth 18U team is once again knocking on the World Series door. Mid County will host the Southwest Regional at Nederland High School starting today. Mid County’s first game of the tournament is slated for 7 p.m. Friday against Pine Bluff, Ark. Thursday was a special day for Mid County Babe Ruth as two locals, Jimmy Collins (shown speaking) and Skip Hopkins (back left) were inducated intot he Southwest Regional Babe Ruth Hall of Fame. Both Hopkins and Collins have been involved in Babe Ruth for over 40 consecutive years either as player, coach or board member. There are nine teams in the tournament with the winner headed to Washington state for the World Series.
