PORT ARTHUR —
On Tuesday, a taste of the Bayou came to Port Arthur. Members of the Bayou Bowl appeared at Port Arthur Memorial's auditorium to officially welcome Titan seniors Toan Nguyen, Ricky Fisk and John Leday to the Texas team in the annual matchup between Texas and Louisiana all-stars.
The football game has been played since 2003, with Texas going 5-4-1 in the last 10 years. Memorial head coach Kenny Harrison will be the offensive coordinator for the game and is bringing along his quarterback (Fisk), one of his most prolific receivers (Leday) and his center (Nguyen) who started every game for the past two seasons.
Both Fisk and Leday have signed to play college football, with Fisk going to Morgan State next fall and Leday playing with the University of Houston.
For Nguyen, who's attending UH on an academic scholarship, this is one last chance to suit up and play high school football.
"It'll be great," Nguyen said. " It's one last chance to play the game I love so much. I'm giving one more try to walk on the (UH) team."
Fisk threw for 2,257 yards and 22 touchdowns last season while rushing for 983 yards and 14 TDs. He became the first QB in school history to top 2,000 passing yards in the regular season.
Leday caught 49 passes for 587yards and four TDs and finished his TItan career as the fourth most prolific pass catcher. For his career, Leday has 73 catches for 1,011 yards and six TDs.
The Bayou Bowl will be held on June 15th in Baytown.
