Bulldogs win Gulf Coast Classic

MONT BELVIEU — The Nederland Bulldog won the Gulf Coast Classic Saturday after victories over Baytown Sterling and Brookshire Royal.

The Bulldogs first defeated the Rangers 57-37 behind 19 points and eight rebounds from Colton Weisbrod.

Tyler Toon added 10 points and Colton Kimler finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Nederland (13-5, 2-0) then defeated Brookshire Royal 60-35 to win the title.

Weisbrod had 25 points and 13 rebounds iin the victory while Toon finished with 10 points and Diondre Frank had nine points.

Nederland returns to action Jan. 3 at home against Little Cypress-Mauriceville.

Lady Titans place fifth at Gulf Coast Classic

MONT BELVIEU — A pair of splendid performances from Jakeira Ford and Joyce Kennerson lifted the Port Arthur Memorial Lady Titans to a fifth place finish at the Gulf Coast Classic.

Kennerson scored 21 points and Ford had 18 points and both were named to the All-Tournament team after Memorial defeated Cinco Ranch 77-50 Saturday.

Memorial led 30-15 after the first period and then was ahead 51-29 at the break.

The Lady Titans (15-4) outscored Cinco Ranch 28-21 in the second half.

Indians to play at BC/OF Tournament

ORANGE COUNTY — The holiday basketball tournament season isn’t quite finished yet.

Bridge City and Orangefield will combine to host a tournament starting Monday and lasting through Wednesday.

PN-G is part of Pool B which will play its first two rounds at Orangefield High School. Pool B also includes LC-M, Flower Mound and Anahuac.

The Indians face the Bobcats at 9 a.m. Monday and will play Anahuac at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday the Indians face LC-M at 9 a.m. and Flower Mound at 1:30 p.m.

Pool A includes Bridge City, Sabine Pass, Lumberton, Vidor and Corsicana. All Pool A games will be played at Bridge City High School.

Bridge City will face Sabine Pass at 10:30 a.m. Monday and Corsicana at 3 p.m.

The top two teams from each pool will face off at noon Wednesday at Orangefield High School.
