Allen's 17 leads Seahawks to fifth straight win

PORT ARTHUR —     When Lone Star College-Cy Fair packed into the paint on defense, Lamar State College-Port Arthur scored from the perimeter. When Cy Fair went man-to-man, the Seahawks took it to the basket.

In the end, LSC-PA proved that no matter the defense, it can find a way to score … and a way to win as the Hawks captured a 70-52 non-conference decision at the Carl Parker Center on Saturday afternoon.         The victory marks the fifth straight for the Seahawks as they moved to 5-0 to start the season.

The Hawks battled out front early, leading by as many as 8 by the midway point of the first half. Ty Allen led the way on offense, knocking down a 3-pointer to start the game, adding another trey and four other points in the first half.

By the end of the first 20 minutes, the Seahawks held a 35-17 lead over the Fighting Ducks. Aside from Allen’s 10 first-half points, Kieran Woods hit for six and Anthony Allen had five.

It would be that first-half push that would secure the victory for the Seahawks, with both teams scoring 35 in the second half.

The Ducks would get within striking distance, closing the scoring gap to six points late, but that would be it as the Seahawks continued to battle back to double-digit leads to ensure the win.

Ty Allen scored 17 in the second half to finish with 27 and Woods had 11 to finish with 17 in the game. Reggis Onwukamuche led the Ducks with 11 points while teammate Jarvis Nicks finished with 10.

The Hawks open Region XIV play with a homecoming game against Tyler Junior College on Tuesday night at the Parker Center, concluding their six-game home stand that started the season.

The game tips off at 7 p.m.,  with a tailgating party set to begin at 5:30 at the Parker Center. A pep rally will take place at the Student Center on the campus of Lamar State starting at noon Monday.
