Familiar names dot hoops rosters

WINNIE — Lots of familiar faces will be taking the basketball court one last time as the Southeast Texas Coaches Association’s All-Star Weekend continues Friday with a pair of basketball games at the East Chambers gym.

The girls will start the doubleheader, tipping off at 6:30 p.m. with the boys game following at 8 p.m.

Four players from Port Arthur Memorial’s girls team highlight the East squad. Seniors Crystal Sallier, Loren Evans, Ariel Hutchinson and Dorceive Davis will suit up for Beaumont Central head coach Rolanda Fontenot. The Memorial four led the Lady Titans to a share of the District 21-5A title this season for a second straight year.

They’re joined on the East team by Vidor’s Tori Biddle and Blair Richmond along with Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Tara Thompson and Kaleigh Roy.

The girls West team is led by Ozen head coach Tammy Brown. Four the Lady Panthers will be joining their head coach, including Texas-bound Nekia Jones, Sanqueisha Rawls, Bealoved Brown and Alexandra Moten.

On the boys side, Nederland’s Brian English will skipper the East team with a few players from his regional quarterfinals Bulldog team along for the ride. Nederland seniors Kirby Hanley, Jamiere Rodgers and Zach English will all join the elder English on the team.

Other area players on the team include Port Neches-Groves’ A.J. Smith and Brandon Pham, Memorial’s Qualyn Broussard and Sabine Pass’ John Warren.

The boys West team will be led by Kountze’s Duane Joubert. Ozen’s Jakobi Jones and Alex Williams will be on the team along with Hardin-Jefferson’s Braiden Harmon and Travis Stevens, West Brook’s Jjuan Hadnot and Beaumont Kelly’s Thomas Falgout.

This is the first year that the SETCA is holding softball and basketball games in conjunction with the annual football game on Saturday at Lamar. The goal of these, plus the golf tournament being held this week, is to raise money to support scholarships for local athletes.
