PORT NECHES — An opening-minute goal by sophomore Mikayla Johnson set the tone as the Port Neches-Groves girls gave Livingston a bit of a long evening on The Reservation.

Johnson scored three goals, Hannah Higgins added two and coach Aimee Bates received single goals from Bailey Tran, Elaine Clopton, Hannah Gerald and Hailey Loupe.

Aimee’s squad has two more games today in the stadium — vs. Crosby at 9:45 a.m., and Willis at 3 p.m.

Lady Titans split two in tourney

Port Arthur Memorial won a close one and lost a close one Friday on the Groves Gulf Coast youth fields in the PN-G’s ninth annual girls kickoff tournament.

The Lady Titans (2-2) relied on two first-half goals and never trailed in a 2-1 victory over Hamshire-Fannett. The later game saw Hardin-Jefferson deliver two first-half goals and down Memorial, 3-1.

Corina Banda knocked home a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the half, providing the victory margin over H-F. Cristina Villa had scored the game’s first goal for the Lady Titans. Banda produced Memorial’s only goal in the second half of the H-J game.
