An opening-minute goal by sophomore Mikayla Johnson set the tone as the Port Neches-Groves girls gave Livingston a bit of a long evening on The Reservation.
PN-G won 9-0, raising its record to 6-1, on the middle day of PN-G’s ninth annual girls kickoff tournament in Indian Stadium.
Johnson scored three goals, Hannah Higgins added two and coach Aimee Bates received single goals from Bailey Tran, Elaine Clopton, Hannah Gerald and Hailey Loupe.
Aimee’s squad has two more games today in the stadium — vs. Crosby at 9:45 a.m., and Willis at 3 p.m.
Titans whip Hardin-Jefferson, 7-1
HAMSHIRE — Port Arthur Memorial scored four goals in a six-minute span of the first half and claimed a 7-1 victory Friday at the Hamshire-Fannett boys soccer tournament.
The Titans improved to 2-0 and hoped to improve that mark today against Jasper at 1p.m.
Ramiro Gaitan opened the scoring with 12:44 left in the opening half. Freshman Edwin Guzman followed with two goals in a stretch of one minute, increasing the lead to 3-0. Jorge Morales made it 4-0 with seven minutes left in the half. Cesar Castellanos converted a penalty kick in the final two minutes, increasing the gap to 5-0 by halftime.
Juan Lua and Brayan Salazar added second-half insurance goals for coach Clint Hoverson’s squad.
Lady Titans split two in tourney
Port Arthur Memorial won a close one and lost a close one Friday on the Groves Gulf Coast youth fields in the PN-G’s ninth annual girls kickoff tournament.
The Lady Titans (2-2) relied on two first-half goals and never trailed in a 2-1 victory over Hamshire-Fannett. The later game saw Hardin-Jefferson deliver two first-half goals and down Memorial, 3-1.
Corina Banda knocked home a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the half, providing the victory margin over H-F. Cristina Villa had scored the game’s first goal for the Lady Titans. Banda produced Memorial’s only goal in the second half of the H-J game.
