Stephen Jackson hosting PA basketball camp

PORT ARTHUR —  Another pro athlete is bringing a youth sports camp to Port Arthur, as NBA veteran Stephen Jackson and the Jack 1 Foundation will be hosting the sixth annual Stephen Jackson Youth Basketball Camp. The camp begins Tuesday and runs through Friday and run from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. It will be held at the Stephen Jackson Academy at 234 Proctor St.

> Registration for the camp will be on site Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m and is free to youth campers. Jackson will be one of the coaches there along with other volunteer coaches and players, teaching basketball skills, game awareness and good sportsmanship.

> Jackson, 35, played at Port Arthur Lincoln in high school, winning a state championship there in 1995 before transferring to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia for his senior season. He played under Port Arthur Memorial athletic director Andre Boutte for that state title.

>

> Last season, Jackson played in 55 games for the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 19.5 minutes per game and 6.2 points per game. For his career, Jackson has averaged 15.3 points per game and shot 41 percent from the floor in 849 games with seven different teams. He was waived by San Antonio shortly before the playoffs. Jackson earned $10 million last season in the final year of his contract.
