PORT NECHES —
Port Neches-Groves head baseball coach Mark Brevell has been reinstated to his position with the team as of Wednesday.
Brevell was briefly removed from that position after an audio recording of him surfaced last Tuesday. In the recording, Brevell used profanity in a speech trying to rally his team in practice. The school investigated the matter and is still in the process of taking corrective measures.
"We have very high standard for our coaches and faculty," PN-G athletic director Brandon Faircloth said. "We strive to be professional all the time."
Brevell will be on the field for PN-G's delayed season opener, as the Indians host Bridge City at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Reservation. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to wet field conditions.
Brevell is opening his third season as the head baseball coach after taking over for Jay Stone. In two seasons, Brevell's Indians have gone 48-16 and won an outright district title last year by going undefeated in district play.
