PORT ARTHUR —
All-star games are coming to a stadium near you this week in three different sports.
The Southeast Texas Coaching Association is holding two different all-star games leading up to the annual football game at Lamar’s Provost-Umphrey Stadium, while the annual Bayou Bowl pitting Texas football players against Louisiana’s best will be held in Baytown on the same night.
Things kick off on Thursday with an all-star softball game between players from all over Southeast Texas. The game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Port Arthur Memorial’s softball stadium.
On Friday, there will be two all-star basketball games. At 6:30 p.m., the East girls will take on the West. Beaumont Central’s Rolander Fontenot will coach the East squad while Beaumont Ozen’s Tammy Brown will lead the West.
The boys will play at 8 p.m. with Nederland’s Brian English leading the East and Kountze’s Duane Joubert leading the West.
The Southeast Texas football game, held at Lamar, will feature a collection of the area’s top talent. The West team will be led by Barbers Hill’s Ronnie Gage while the East squad will be led by Silsbee’s Bobby McGallion.
The Bayou Bowl, featuring an all-star team of Texas players facing off against Lousiana’s all-stars, will be played in Baytown at 7 p.m. Saturday. Port Arthur Memorial head coach Kenny Harrison will be the offensive coordinator for the Texas team.
He’ll be joined on the Texas squad by Titans quarterback Ricky Fisk, who was named the Port Arthur News Super Team MVP last season, center Toan Nguyen and receiver John Leday, both of whom also made the Super Team.
