Lady Indians inch closer to playoffs


PORT NECHES — Orangefield 3, Hardin-Jefferson 2

ORANGEFIELD — Proving who was the best team in District 21-3A this season, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats made a slew of key defensive plays and got some timely hits to clinch the 21-3A crown with a tight 3-2 decision against the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks at Lady Bobcat Field Friday night.

Rightfielder Haley Fontenot’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth sealed the deal for Orangefield (19-3, 10-1).

The Lady Bobcats led H-J (18-4, 8-3) 2-0 only to see the Lady Hawks rally with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Orangefield hit paydirt with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

Khandi Breaux once again got the win on the hill for the Bobcats. She scattered six hits against a hard-hitting H-J unit while striking out four and walking three.

The Lady Bobcats will play host to West Orange-Stark Tuesday night for Senior Night to end the regular season.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville 18, Beaumont Central 0

BEAUMONT — It only took three innings for the LC-M Lady Bears to rough up the Beaumont Central Lady Jags 18-0 in District 20-4A action at Lady Jaguar Field Friday.

The Lady Bears (23-6, 11-2) scored there runs on just seven hits.

Danielle Hodges went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Haley Mills was 1-for-3 with a double  and scored four runs. Mikaela Stegall and Taylor Fraccastoro both had hits, scored a run apiece and drove in a run apiece.

Kayla Manuel had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run. Morgan Babineaux had a hit and two RBI and scored twice. Angel Villanueva drove in two runs and scored. Alexie Hughes drove in a run and scored and Ashley Short also drove in a run and scored. Ashley Short drove in a run and scored. Chelsey White had a RBI and scored. Jenna James scored a run and drove in one while Blythe Ferguson and Alisha Fuss each scored a run.

The playoff-bound Lady Bears will host first-place Vidor Tuesday to wrap up the regular season.
