PN-G capsule: Indians are one loss away from their first losing season since 2008. In Matt Burnett’s last season as head coach, PN-G was 3-6 and 1-6 in district play. … Sophomore Ky Walker not only played cornerback during Mid-County Madness, he played quite a bit and played well. Walker was asked to cover Nederland’s Seth Barrow and did a good job of it, getting beat deep just once. Walker will not return at QB this week, but the PN-G coaching staff is hoping to get him back for Beaumont Ozen. … Facing Vidor’s tricky offense, PN-G at least had help from the schedule in recent seasons. Both Livingston and Lumberton ran offenses which were somewhat similar to the Pirates’ scheme, and PN-G played both of them before Vidor the past two seasons. This year, the Indians faced a Lumberton squad that didn’t really run much Slot T at all before matchup up with Vidor this week. … Junior linebacker Robert Dawson filled in admirably for the injured Logan Warlick. The transfer from San Angelo Central had 15 tackles against Nederland, including one for a loss. That’s a season high in tackles for the Indians and gives Dawson 47 tackles this year.

Vidor capsule : The 6-1 Pirates enter the game on a three-game winning streak. Vidor lost its first district game to Nederland before beating Ozen 28-21, Lumberton 66-6 and Central 40-21. The Pirates have scored the most points in 20-4A this season with 266 and are the only team in the district to not allow 100 points yet. … Vidor’s Montana Quirante continues to make his case to be the league’s MVP this season. The senior quarterback has 1,067 rushing yards with 19 touchdowns and has thrown for another 290 yards with one TD and four interceptions. Last season, Quirante rushed for 847 yards and 13 TDs during the regular season. … The Pirates have three running backs in the top 15 in the district for rushing yards. Joining 20-4A leader Quirante are fullback Justin Moore with 665 yards and nine TDs and tailback Thomas Novak with 430 yards and two TDs. Novak also has the longest run in 20-4A this season, a 76-yard TD scamper against Nederland. … Vidor’s Austin Rodriguez is tied for second in the district with three interceptions. …Kicker Michael Tamayo leads 20-4A in points by a kicker with 48. He’s made 30 PATs this season and six field goals.

Faircloth said: “They’re well coached. They have more experience than anyone in the district. Two years ago, they were 2-8 or 3-7, with all the kids playing as sophomores. They have aged well. One, they are really well-coached and two, they have really good players. Their scheme is unique. They’re hard on us and we play them every year. We know what’s coming and it’s still tough. I feel like I’ve played against these guys at Permian. This defense played against Brennan Doty. John Boy Smith is one of the best players on their defense. He’s wreaking just as much havoc on defense as Quirante. He’s on the d-line and he’s making as many tackles as Quirante.”

Matthews said: "We've gone through four district games and bounced back after losing the first one to win three straight. We're pretty healthy right now and feeling good about where we're at as a team. PN-G has just been getting better and better. I look at what their o-line, watching what they have done to other defensive linemen and think that we can't do those kinds of things here. A.J. (Smith) is huge and can throw the ball well. Brandon (Faircloth) always makes that offense tough with all the shifts and things he does. Defensively, they haven't seen any teams running two tight end sets, so on film, all we can really look for is the personnel.”
