Pruett fantasy football: Richardson trade huge in fantasy world

PORT ARTHUR — If fans like trades of big-name players with playoff contending teams, the NFL is usually not the place to watch the transactions wire.

Wednesday changed that as Trent Richardson was traded by Cleveland to Indianapolis.

This is huge for fantasy football owners of Richardson and also Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

Now I drafted Richardson myself and was starting to feel a little down on his production with the Browns. Teams were able to key on Richardson because Cleveland had no other weapons to worry about when the Browns were on offense.

Richardson on the Colts gives Luck another weapon and Indy’s passing attack means defenses will have to respect both the run and the pass.

I could be wrong but Richardson should really take off in Indy. He is in prime position to put up huge fantasy points right away against Minnesota this Sunday.

Also. look for Luck’s numbers to go up because now he has a running back defenses will have to keep an eye on. This is a great trade for the Colts and means the Browns now have no player on their team you need to have on your fantasy football team. That is simply a fact.

Two guys with injuries to keep an eye on this weekend are Atlanta receiver Roddy White and Baltimore running back Ray Rice.

Neither player has practiced, so that is a huge concern.

White has not performed this season as many thought he would because of an ankle injury. It should be noted though White had not been sidelined in his eight seasons in the NFL.

Rice will probably come down to a game-time decision with a hurt hip. Rice is too good of a player to sit without full confirmation he will not play from the Baltimore coaches. Watch this injury this weekend before moving Rice to your bench.

Keep an eye on Oakland quarterback Terrelle Pryor. He could be on his way to being this year’s version of RGIII and Cam Newton. Pryor had a monster game rushing in the first week. He might not get as many yards passing and rushing as those two listed but he could be a nice player to have around for a flex position.

Texans fans know this but it is still hard to grasp: Ben Tate has more yards than Arian Foster through the first two weeks. This is killing some fantasy owners, like myself, who spent a high first round pick on Foster. What has been worst in my case is I also have Ben Tate. Who to play against the Ravens is confusing but Foster is like Rice, too good to sit.

The Eagles have the leading rusher in the league in LeSean McCoy and receiver in DeSean Jackson. If you need a quarterback, Michael Vick is an interesting player. Chip Kelly’s offense seems to be working through the first couple of weeks but there is concern with Vick’s age and how he will maintain through the year.
