No. 13 Nederland beats No. 13 Silsbee

SILSBEE – The Nederland boys basketball team went finished off the non-district, non-tournament portion of their schedule with a 66-61 win over Silsbee on Friday.

Nederland (10-5) scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to break a 38-38 tie after the first three. Bulldog senior Zach English scored 29 points and had 10 rebounds to lead his team.

The Bulldogs will open district play at Vidor at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lady Titans open 21-5A win win

BEAUMONT – The Port Arthur Memorial girls basketball team opened the 2012-13 district schedule with a 41-27 victory over Beaumont West Brook.

Memorial (14-2, 1-0) held the Lady Bruins to just 10 points in the second half to pull away with the win. Ariel Hutchinson led the Lady Titans with 13 points while sophomore guard Joyce Kennerson added 12 and senior post Dorcieve Davis scored eight.

Memorial will host La Porte at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial boys top LC-M

LITTLE CYPRESS – The Port Arthur Memorial boys basketball team got back to .500 with a 51-45 road victory at Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Friday.

Memorial’s Dorian Chatman led all scorers with 14 points while teammate Torian Lott had 12. Ron Taylor added 10 points for Memorial while Joseph Williams had 11.

Memorial (7-7) will open district play Friday at Deer Park.
