Bridge City/West Orange-Stark postponed
BRIDGE CITY — Weather got the best of the District 21-3A baseball showdown between the Bridge City Cardinals and the West Orange-Stark Mustangs Friday night at Cardinal Field.
The game was called off in the top of the fifth inning with the Cardinals leading 2-0. The two teams are reportedly going to try again at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Bridge City (14-2-2, 4-0) got off to a hot start Friday when Hunter Uzzle led the bottom of the first off by getting hit and starting pitcher Chase Shugert blasted a two-run homer.
Shugart had allowed one hit with five strike outs and three walks before the game was postponed. Aidan Anderson was on the mound for the Mustangs (16-1, 4-0) and had given up three hits with five strike outs.
According to District 21-3A rules, the two teams are to resume the game where it was left off at the postponement.
Bridge City travels to face Orangefield Monday. The Mustangs are scheduled to be at home Monday to face Silsbee. Both games are slated to start at 4:30 p.m.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville 18, Central 2
LITTLE CYPRESS — Little Cypress-Mauriceville made quick work of the Beaumont Central Jaguars 18-2 in five innings in District 20-4A action at Don Gibbens Field Friday evening.
Mitchell Lee had a huge outing for the Bears. Lee got the win on the hill, working three innings and striking out six. He also was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
Taylor Landry had the hit of the game for the Bears (8-9, 3-3) as he crushed a grandslam home run.
Jace Robertson belted two doubles for the Bears while Grant White had two hits.
LC-M is scheduled to travel to face Vidor at 1 p.m. Saturday.
