ORANGEFIELD — The Port Neches-Groves were the complete opposite Tuesday as they were on Monday at the Bayou Classic Tournament held at Orangefield and Bridge City High Schools.
Instead of winning two games like they did on Monday, the Indians dropped two contests.
It all started Tuesday against 20-4A rival Little Cypress-Mauriceville.
The Indians jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead after the first period only to give up 17 points in the second. PN-G could not match the intensity in the second and was limited to seven points in the frame and trailed 21-16 at the break.
The Indians, who were led by 15 points from Adam Morse, made up two points in the third yet could not overcome the Bears in the fourth.
LC-M held on to win 46-43.
PN-G was then consistent against Flower Mound in their second game Tuesday but not in a good way as the Indians fell 61-36.
PN-G’s score by quarters was 4-14-4-14.
The big problem was Flower Mound, a home school out of Dallas, put up 19 points in the first and held a 28-18 lead at the break.
Flower Mound broke out for 20 points in the third to lead 48-22 heading in the fourth period. Flower Mound, who will play Corsicana at noon for the tournament championship, was outscored 14-13 in the last eight minutes.
Jacob Underhill had his best game of the tournament against Flower Mound by scoring 15 points.
