Nederland Little League wins, headed to state

WOODLANDS — Nederland squeezed out a 3-2 win on Monday night to claim the section two championship over host Orwall. Nederland beat Orwall twice in the tournament, including a 9-4 decision on Saturday.
Orwall advance to the championship by beating Lumberton 5-3.
With the victory, Nederland improved to 3-0 on the tournament and 7-0 overall. Also with the win, Nederland advances to state tournament in what is the first year Nederland South Little League and Nederland North Little League merged to form one league.
The state tournament will start on Saturday in Tyler. It is a four-team, two-loss elimination tournament. If Nederland wins that bracket, it will advance to Waco for Regionals.
Regional winners then advance to the LL World Series in Williamsport, Penn.
Nederland is the first team to advance to the state tournament since Groves National did it in 2006.
Nederland took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Jared Ramoin doubled and Colton Weisbord followed with a homer. Weisbord was 2-for-3 with a single, double and two RBIs. Ramoin went 1-for-2 with a walk.
Nederland never lost its 2-0 lead but came close on a couple occasions.
Orwall cut the game to 2-1 and then with the score 3-1, Orwall hit a solo home run to make the score 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
Ramoin came in to close the game out, however, getting the final three batters and striking out the last to seal the victory.
Preston White got the win for Nederland. He went three innings. Nathan Cluck tossed two and Ramoin picked up the save with his work in the sixth.
Nederland scored the decisive run in the top of the sixth when Dylan Chandler singled in Osmar Mendoza from third base. Mendoza reached base on a hit.
