PAISD will consider firing teacher

PORT ARTHUR — PAISD school board will consider firing teacher

The Port Arthur Independent School District board of trustees will meet in closed session at a meeting Thursday to determine whether or not to terminate a teacher accused of assaulting an 11-year-old student in April 2013.

Ruby Gunner, a teacher at Robert E. Lee Elementary teacher, was indicted in May on one charge of injury to a child. Gunner has denied the allegations in the past, maintaining that any injuries she inflicted upon the student occurred only in self-defense.

The board voted in a 4-2 decision to suspend Gunner at a May 24 meeting.
