PORT ARTHUR — Q: Now that the canvasback limit has been raised, where are the best places in Texas to hunt them?
A: Choke Canyon, Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend. All three of those lakes hold many canvasbacks and the hunting is typically the best later in the season.
Q: Is it true you hunted with the Duck Dynasty guys?
A: Yes. In 2006, I had the honor of hunting with Phil, Jase, Godwin and several family friends. I stayed at Phil’s house, at Miss Kay’s duck gumbo and sat on their couch and talked about our faith in Christ for a couple of hours. There will be an excerpt from the interview I did with Phil in the next edition of Real Outdoors of Southeast Texas.
Q: I can only take one buck where I hunt and I am bowhunting for the very first time. I have a big spike that I have seen while sitting on the stand videoing several times. If it comes out opening day, would you shoot it or let it walk to get a bigger one?
A: Any deer is a trophy when taken with a bow. Shoot it and enjoy some tasty friend backstrap.
