PORT ARTHUR —
I would be remiss in not reporting the actions taken on the park. As previously reported, mower was at Town Hall Park Monday morning at 7:30 a.m., mowing playground area. Later that day a worker came and treated ant hills in playground area. On Tuesday morning, a city worker began mowing at 7:30 a.m. and worked alone until 10:30 a.m., getting the other half of the park mown, trimmed up and looking as it should.
I plan to visit all of our cities parks, checking into the condition of the playground equipment and the grounds of the parks.
I was happy to read of the new city budget being passed. I was especially heartened to read that we are to get a new parks and rec director. I look forward to a vast improvement in our cities parks. I know, I know, in the big picture it's not much. But to the parents of young children, these quality of life amenities ARE important and tax paying families are something this city needs. Our schools are being put into much better shape than they have been in for years. We are slowly (and somewhat painfully) rebuilding the city. Citizens and city government working together is what it will take.
Sometimes it is as simple as letting the city know that there is a problem that needs immediate attention, if you see something in your neighborhood that needs attention, don’t wait for “somebody” to take care of it. YOU are somebody. Call, email, use social media and then follow up.
