PORT ARTHUR —
October is National Principals Month! The National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals are joining with national, state, and local lawmakers to acknowledge the indispensable leadership role provided by these dedicated educators.
Bipartisan resolutions have been introduced in the House and the Senate recognizing the importance of campus principals. Some members of Congress will take advantage of the Columbus Day recess to shadow a principal in their home district for a day to get an idea of what a principal does firsthand. Policymakers will use that knowledge to inform the education policies they craft. SchoolTube is hosting a video contest where students compete for a gift card by submitting a brief video of why their principal is great. Campus chapters of Future Educators, Parent Teacher Organizations, and Booster Clubs are also honoring those who have chosen to make a difference in the lives of our young people.
With the belief that intellectual capacity can be expanded through various means, principals are constantly searching for the tipping point with every student. The challenges they face are many, but the successes are extremely gratifying. I urge everyone to stand for the community ideals exemplified by your local principal. I believe we can agree above all, our students must come first.
