Letter: Reado-Harrison supported for PA mayor

— The mayoral candidacy is on its way to an end or a new beginning.  Port Arthur now has over 30,000 registered voters and only a little over 4 percent have voted of those registered voters.

It seems that the voters have lost their confidence in local government or city council. The present council has worked 2 to 6 years to an end with no visible results that will directly affect the people.  Although approached by many to grow the city and improve its instability, council has caused a discouragement to the abilities of those interested parties.

This kind of disposition has caused many to stay home and do nothing. The city is flush with industry and great resources but those resources are not used. The unemployment rate is at a high  14.2 percent and our mayor said in a sorority forum that she could not believe that the paper was giving the correct information when Lowra A. Reado-Harrison said, “I checked, and the percentage is true.”

Many issues have arrived here in the city of Port Arthur that had an environmental impact on all of the citizens — spills, explosions, drinking water quality integrity, and garbage pickup (caused 3 Notice of Violations by TCEQ) to list a few.  Although Hilton Kelly has tried to increase environmental awareness, he is still not a professional of the field with knowledge that would equally assist residents and industry.

We are threatened daily on potential environmental threats. We need a professional look and assistance with environmental awareness.  It is going to take an individual with strong integrity, who has the people’s interest at heart, not how much money can be made or how many arguments can be accomplished in one meeting with no results, but high concentration on the people’s needs.

It will take an individual who will listen to the people, work with the people, and return phone calls.  It will take an individual who truly wants to work with the people and take their concerns serious whether it is in city hall or down in the dredging sludge. Lowra A. Reado-Harrison is a native or Port Arthur, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, attended Lamar University for the study of Pre-Law Business, graduated from University of Phoenix with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and still attending University of Phoenix as a Senior seeking her Bachelor’s in Environmental Science.

Mrs. Reado-Harrison has worked in industry in the environmental field for 16 years at Louisiana Pacific, Silsbee, Ameripol Synpol Corporation by Englobal Engineering, and The Safety First Group all in Environmental Management. She had to make her own budgets and headed many large projects saving industry over $98,000 and has lowered her budgets by 67 percent per industrial fiscal year leaving room for other major industrial ventures.

Lowra A. Reado-Harrison is very familiar with Region 10 as managed under the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and has already established good relationships within this entity. Mrs. Reado-Harrison is a United States Army Veteran who served during the Persian Gulf War as 2nd Lieutenant serving in the rear for supplies of weapons, food, and medical. There is no better person to be Port Arthur Mayor than Lowra A. Reado-Harrison, for she is the alternative to the past and current situation of Port Arthur moving from poverty to prosperity.
