NEAL MORGAN: On fearing Obama’s success

Despite all their vehement protestations to the contrary, it has become pitifully obvious to me that the ultra-conservative Right is terrified. This, of course, includes the skinheads and those with swastika tattoos, but, sadly, it also includes even a good number of less moderate conservatives, and assuredly embraces the more corporate minded, especially drug and insurance executives and their fellow travelers.
Surprisingly, it isn’t the war in Iraq or Afghanistan those conservative types fear, nor is it terrorism or 9/11.
No, none of these leave those braves souls trembling. These wing nuts from the far Right, I firmly believe, tremble at the thought of America’s success under a half-black chief executive., a Negro man, an African American with the ultra-suspicious name of Barack Hussien Obama.
Hell, they don’t fear that he will fail in his endeavors to turn eight years of Bush/Cheney around.
They fear he will succeed.
They shake and tremble when they learn Obama has reversed the decline of America’s image in other countries. In a survey of 21 countries, Obama’s actions abroad are approved by 71 percent of them.
How many of those foreigners polled approved of Bush’s overseas actions? Only 17 percent, and that scares the Beejesus out of Right wing nuts.
Even before Obama’s inauguration, Right wingers were filing lawsuits claiming he was not a “natural born” American. And they still scream, even after Hawaii’s Republican Gov. Linda Linge said his birth certificate was legit and filed in that state. But far Righters still stamp their feet like 12-year-old girls about Obama’s birth certificate, in spite of the fact (FACT) that his birth announcement was printed in two Honolulu newspapers in 1961.
But, hey, all you Right wingers just keep it up and listen to Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin. . . and even Lou Dobbs lately. Democrats are lovin’ it, y’all. Why? Because we are certain that America’s fair-minded majority, whether they call themselves Democrats, Republicans, or Independents, recognize BS when they smell it.
Yes, Right wingers have become a problem for the Republican party. The GOP is becoming fearful of Obama’s success.
Nothing proves it better than the GOP’s money machine revving up against health-care reform. We spend more money on healthy care than any nation in the world, yet our infant mortality is higher and life expectancy shorter than any nation in Europe. And, as a writer asked in the London Daily Telegraph, “Why does the richest country on earth have an immunization rate worse than Botswana’s?”
That statement is not true, of course, of the richest Americans among us. Rich Americans have the best care in the world because they have the money to pay for it. But the poor or unemployed pretty much go without, unless they have hours to spend in emergency rooms.
If emergency rooms are even available where they live.
“Let the gummint git into the medical bidness,’ idiot Wing nuts (and big time insurance executives) say, “and the gummint will ruin it.” Once more, I have to ask the question, “Why does a group who is so against government want to tell the rest of us how it should be run?”
“My God, it’s socialized medicine . . . socialism,” they scream. Well, so are public schools and most of the screamers were educated there. But that’s another fact they want to ignore.
