PORT ARTHUR —
Ernest Edward (Sonny) Broussard, age 73, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 14th, in Conroe surrounded by his children. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on July 29, 1939 to Dr Joseph and Hazel Broussard. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, two children, two stepchildren and eight grandchildren. Ernie and his wife, Sandy, have spent their retirement years in Walden on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas.
Ernie is predeceased by his parents and brother, Joseph A. Broussard. He is survived by his loving wife Sandy Broussard, his son Matt Broussard and wife, Laura, of Houston, his daughter Michelle Broussard NeSmith and husband Troy of Dallas, Georgia, his stepdaughter Amy Masey and husband Shane of Carrollton, Texas, his stepson Trey Calvery and his wife, Erica, of Houston, and his grandchildren Keaton Calvery, Jonah NeSmith, Gabriel NeSmith, Hank Broussard, Mia Walther, Louie Broussard, Dylan Masey, & Mason NeSmith.
Ernie attended Bishop Byrne Catholic School in Port Arthur, graduating in 1959. He worked his way through college attending Lamar University in Beaumont and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1963. In 1967 he married Suzette Pate of Bridge City and they had two children. Ultimately, he moved to Houston, where he joined the Fluor Corporation, and during the next 30+ years he was promoted to a series of increasingly responsible management positions in the oil and gas industry. The majority of his career was spent at Fluor, but in 1991 he joined Coastal Corporation and retired in 2004 from El Paso Corporation. His career offered him the opportunity to visit many countries around the world. Most importantly, throughout his career, Ernie made many close friends whose relationships he maintained throughout his life.
From boyhood to retirement, he enjoyed a passion for fishing. His other favorite pastimes were football, boating and traveling. Ernie will be dearly missed.
Services will be officiated by The Rev. Jerald Hyche on Monday, November 19, 2012, 10:00am, at St. James the Apostle Episcopal Church, 1803 Highland Hollow Dr. in Conroe, Texas, 77304. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Pt. Arthur, Texas at 3:00pm. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Robert A. Wolff and Kelli Nugent, PA, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, who provided excellent & compassionate care during his illness.
