PORT ARTHUR —
Verneal Clanahan Verret, 92, formerly of Port Arthur, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Remington Park Assisted and Skilled Nursing Home in Baytown, Texas.
Verneal was born on August 17, 1921, in Saratoga, Texas, to C.D. "Rags" and Vallie Clanahan. She lived in Port Arthur for over fifty years before moving to Baytown in 2008. Verneal worked at Mobil Oil Refinery in Beaumont during World War II. She loved to cook, sew, work in her yard and spend time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Robert Verret and his wife, Linda, of Mont Belvieu; sister, Marilyn Hill of Mont Belvieu; brothers, Dewey Clanahan and his wife, Eloise, of Beaumont and Jim Clanahan and his wife, Marilyn, of Midland; grandchildren, Angela Cox and her husband, Toby, of Baytown and Brad Verret and his wife, Jayme, of Spring; four great grandchildren, Tanner and Kennedy Cox of Baytown and Brayden and Ellison Verret of Spring; and a very special friend, Lavergne Tumlinson. Verneal was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of sixty-four years, Charles Verret.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home in Baytown. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
