Lou Ella Larson

PORT ARTHUR —    Lou Ella Larson, 94, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away March 10, 2014.  She was born on June 18, 1919 to Henry and Ida Bauman Speckman in Chriesman, Texas.

   Before coming to Port Arthur In 1946, she graduated from Caldwell High School in 1935 at age fifteen.  She then attended Blinn College in Brenham and received a teacher’s certificate.  Lou taught school for two years in Burleson County.

   Lou’s ambition was to be a secretary and she fulfilled this wish by attending Durham Draughons Business School in Austin, Texas where she completed the secretarial course and worked at the AAA Agricultural Office in Caldwell, Texas.

   In 1942 Lou married her beloved Air Force Lieutenant Leonard Carl Larson in Austin.  This being the years of World War II, she traveled with her husband and lived in many different states.  Following their duty in the military, she helped establish their home in Port Arthur where Leonard worked as a chemical engineer managing the Process Department at Texaco Refinery.

Lou loved to travel and she especially enjoyed three trips to Sweden, a two week trip to Hawaii, a cruise to the Bahamas and West India Islands and a cruise of the open Alaska Passage.  She also enjoyed crocheting and family photography.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #7, the Port Arthur Historical Society, the Texaco Retirees Social Club, and a .past member of the Artisan Club of the Federated Women’s Club.

   Lou was laid to rest beside her loving husband in the Chriesman Cemetery in Burleson County.

   She is survived by one son, Lenny, and wife Jo Ann Larson of Port Arthur; four grandchildren, David, Phaedra, Eric and Tracy; nine great grandchildren, London, Reese, Carigan, Layla, Genevieve, Koen, Collin, Daniel and Dayden.  Also surviving is  a sister in law, Billie Moeller of New Braunfels, Texas and other loving relatives and friends.

   Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband of 66 years, a daughter Pamela Dunklin, a son Dwight Larson, an infant brother, and one sister Anna Munz.

   Extra special thanks to our amazing nurse in our family, Peggy Larson, for being at Lou’s bedside with Lenny and Eric Larson when Lou (Granny) crossed over to Jesus.
