PORT ARTHUR — January 10, 1932 to February 9, 2013



   Ernest Joseph Henton, Sr., 81, of Port Arthur, Texas was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Cypress Glen Nursing and Rehab.  He was born in Patterson, LA, but a resident of Port Arthur for most of his life.  He was a former member of Old St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Male Chorus.

   He served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America from 1951 to 1956 where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal W/3 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.  He worked for the City of Port Arthur Sewer/Water Department for 36 years.  Foreman Ernest Henton retired in January 1993.

   He is preceded in death by his wife, Melba Henton; his youngest son, Alvin C. Henton, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Henton, Sr.; brothers, Percy Jr., Floyd, Vernette, Charles, Lawrence and Alvin Henton; sisters, Alma Jones and Alice Henton.

   He leaves to cherish his memory seven children, Ernest J. Henton, Jr., Patricia E. Henton, Terrie Henton Williams (Tommy), Cheryl Henton Wilson, Christopher M. Henton (Brenda), Graylon T. Henton (Deborah) and Leslie Henton Doss (Byron); two sisters Jeanette Levison and Iva Henton; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

   Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at New Hope Baptist Church with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time with Rev. Richard Scott, Sr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
