Eugene L. “Gene” Johnson, Sr.


— Eugene L. “Gene” Johnson, Sr., 77, of Baytown, TX went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2013. Gene was born September 1, 1936 to Heath and Jennie Lee Bishop Johnson in Port Arthur, TX. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1953-1956 and worked in the Petro Chemical Industry as a heavy equipment operator. He always enjoyed maintaining a beautiful yard and there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t grow. Gene was a hard worker, great provider and took great joy in and loved being surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert Dewey Johnson, Edmond Gerald Johnson, and James Earl Johnson; and son, Eugene L. “Bubba” Johnson, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Freeman Johnson who was his high school sweet heart and best friend for 56 years; sister, Marjorie Jan Johnson Prejean; brother, Leonard Lee Johnson and wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Delores Johnson; daughters, Becky Johnson Motley and husband, Donald, Theresa Johnson Irwin, and Kathi Johnson Leonard and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Chris Motley, Kelli Motley Tull and husband, Tommy, Chad Irwin and wife, Jessica, Kara Irwin, Kinsey Irwin, Kade Johnson and wife, Angie, Katie G’Sell Wilks and husband, Russell, Karli Leonard, and Michael King; great grandchildren, Krista, Kyleigh, Kasen, and Kalex Motley, Conner and Camryn Tull, Kenady, Kenli and Cole Irwin, Caiman Irwin, Kayden and Karis Johnson, Kaylor and Kyce Wilks, Clayton and Miles King; special cousins, Bubba Green and wife, Delma, Bill Fawvor and wife, Christine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request, a private graveside service officiated by Don Galloway and Bubba Green with military honors was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery Saturday, November 9, 2013.

Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Motley, Robert Leonard, Chuck Irwin, Chris Motley, Kade Johnson, Chad Irwin, Tommy Tull, Russell Wilks, and Bubba Green.
