PORT ARTHUR - Brenda Joyce Thompson Allen, 62, of Port Arthur, passed on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Brenda is survived by her mother, Willie Mosely Fonteno; children, Kenyatta J. Rahman and Tahara J. Rahman of Houston, Texas; sisters, Debra Llorentz Jefferson of Orange, Texas, Tracy L. Mosely and Lorri Mosely Woodard of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Shanara Hope, Jasmine Rahman, JaNyia Rahman, and JaKayla Rahman of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephew, Kendra Llorentz, Chasiti Mosely of Houston, Texas and John Jefferson III of Orange, Texas; aunts Bettye L. Davis and Deniese James of Port Arthur, Texas and uncle Harold Davis, Sr. of Victorville, California. Also surviving her are a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Thompson and brother Ronald Thompson.
Brenda was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She taught elementary school in the Houston and North Forest Independent School Districts and retired from Port Arthur Independent School District after 34 years of teaching.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 am - 11:00 am on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 am. Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Hannah Funeral Home.

NEDERLAND - Faye Marie Buhrow, 85, of Nederland died peacefully at home on March 19, 2008. She was born March 3, 1923 in Sumner, Iowa to the late Ernest and Edna Mae Harding Topp. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Groves. She was a devoted school teacher.
She is survived by a son, Stephen D. Buhrow of Costa Mesa, California; 2 daughters, Eloise K. Simmons of Nederland, Texas and Linda L. Crogan of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Wanda Kennedy of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great - grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janice Hall; and brother, Bob Topp.
Services will be Saturday, March 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland, Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Willie “Chico” Gloston III
On Monday night, March 17, 2008, an Angel of the Lord was sent to bring home Willie Gloston III (Chico) to his Savior Jesus Christ. Willie was a life long resident of Port Arthur, TX. He was a 1995 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. He was a member of 7th Street Baptist Church, Rev. Max Hardin. He was employed by Emerson Instrument and Valve Services of Vidor, Texas.
He leaves to cherish his lovely wife, Tonja Keal Gloston; three beautiful children who will miss him dearly, Willie Gloston IV, Cameron Gloston and Kalib Gloston all of Port Arthur. In addition to his children, he leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother, Julia Gloston of Port Arthur and his father, Willie Gloston Jr. (Paula) of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Damon Gloston (Michelle) and Steven Daniels (Demekia); sisters, Laquana Ackrond (Ahmad), Shawana Richard (Miguel) all of Port Arthur; nephews, Joseph Guidry, D’marc Laurent, David Rodreiguez, D’Morrius Richard and Gabriel Gloston all of Port Arthur; and a host of relatives and friends.

Marine Richard Howard
Marine Richard Howard, 85, of Port Arthur died Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Christus St. Mary Hospital. A native of Opelousas, LA she was a longtime resident of Port Arthur.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Howard; two children, Edward and Ophelia Howard and nine siblings.
She is survived by one sister, Irene Hatch (Rev. Louis Hatch, Jr.) of Port Arthur; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

GROVES - Mary Alice Irvin, 67, of Groves, Texas died Wednesday, March l9, 2008 at her residence.
Mary was born November 26, l940 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a lifelong Groves resident and member of Memorial Baptist Church. She was a cafeteria worker at Port Neches High School.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Memorial Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas with Reverend Dale Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hermannia O'Niell; and brother, William Coon.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Calvin P. Evon Kennerly, 74, born November 23, 1933 to the late Paul Lewis Sr. and Celestine Young Lewis. She entered into holy peace on March 13, 2008 after a lengthy illness at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas.
Evon Lewis Kennerly was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School, she was also employed as a Pre-School teacher for over 20 years. Evon Lewis Kennerly was the devoted wife of the late Wilton Lloyd Kennerly Sr. for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Lewis Sr.; one sister, Doris Fields; one son, Donald Jones; one brother-in-law, George Fields.
Evon Kennerly was a member of the Israel Chapel AME Church in Port Arthur, Texas under the Present Leadership of Pastor V. Martin Jr. where she served on the Usher Board and any other way she could.
She leaves to cherish her memories 9 daughters, Patricia Watson (Lionel), Barbara (Eddie), Cindy Kennerly, Sandra Williams, Pervis Tyree all of Port Arthur, Jacquelyn Kennerly of Houston, Harriet Kennerly, Gwendolyn Stokes, Sandra Anderson all of Boston, MA; 4 sons, Todd Gardner Sr. (Kay), Michael Kennerly, Whitney Jones all of Port Arthur, Wilton Kennerly Jr. of Houston; 17 grandchildren; 4 and 1/2 great grandchildren; uncle, Willie Young; brother-in-law, Harold Kennerly (Dorothy) of Jacksonville, FL; 3 sisters-in-law, Alice Lewis, Wilma Ross both of Port Arthur, Maragaret Lightfoot of Tom River, NJ; 2 godchildren, Goldie Fields, Michael Henton; 2 special friends, Melba Henton, and Josephine Lewis. Anita Gossett LeJune
PORT ARTHUR - Anita Gossett LeJune 76 of Port Arthur passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2008. She was born on July 24, 1931. Anita was a native of Port Arthur and a retired school teacher. She belonged to numerous organizations including the Red Hat Club and French Club. Anita’s sense of humor and wit were legend. She met everyone with an inner warmth that was unmistakable. Anita will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5 P. M. to 8 P. M. with a Rosary at 7 P. M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Clayton Thompson. A private burial will follow.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Art LeJune. She is survived by her son, Todd LeJune and his wife Christie of Beaumont and their daughter Aubry, daughter, Tonya Baumann and husband, Don of West Virginia and their daughters, Kaitlyn and Laura.

NEDERLAND - Alberga Sheldon Jones, Sr., 84, of Nederland passed away the Medical Center of Southeast Texas on March 18, 2008. He was born in Roatan, Honduras C.A. on August 11, 1923 to the late Richard D. and Adelaide D. Jones.
He was a devoted husband to Clara Woods Jones of Nederland; father of sons, Mikel Jones and wife, Jeannine and Sheldon Jones and wife, Susie, all of Nederland; daughter, Sherri Jones of Nederland; brother to Andy Jones and wife, Blanca of Roatan Honduras, Fayer Norman of Louisiana, and Adelaide Paige of Yucipa, California; grandfather of 5 grandchildren; great-grandfather of 1 great-grandchild; and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland under the direction of Jay Kolb.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Harry Adams and Brooks Bentsinger officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County.
Elmo Carson Spivey
BRIDGE CITY - Elmo Carson Spivey, of Bridge City, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Fellowship Church of Christ in Orange. Tommy Gore will officiate. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery in Vinton, LA. Services under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday at the church.
Elmo was born January 9, 1922, in Port Arthur to Wesley and Ara Pearl (Bryan) Spivey.
Elmo served in the US Army during WWII. He worked as an operator for Texaco Refinery. Elmo enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winona Spivey, parents, Wesley and Ara Spivey and brother Wilburn Spivey.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Passmore and husband James of Athens, Texas, Rhonda Glena of Athens, Texas and Denise Vickers and husband Mike of Bridge City; grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen Passmore and Emily, John Passmore and Shannon, Amber Vickers, Kristal Vickers, Rene, Glena; great grandchildren, Ashley Passmore and Ruthie Passmore and sister Dorothy Brown.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Passmore, Stephen Passmore, John Passmore, Mike Vickers, James Truncale and Cullin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Griffin, Arnold Vickers and the Elders of Fellowship Church of Christ.

Charles “Charlie” Alton Walker
Charles Alton Walker was born to Luther J. and Callie Sumner Walker on June 3, 1927, in Spann, Georgia. He was the 10th born of 14 siblings. In 1946 Charlie attended the U.S. War Shipping Administration Maritime School in New Orleans. Upon graduation, he served aboard various U.S. Flag Merchant Ships until 1963, at which time he was appointed Field Patrolman for National Maritime Union. His last ship he set sail on was the “Gulf Seal” before he was elected Business Agent for the N.M.U. in Port Arthur, Texas. It was around the same time that he met his wife of 35 years, Latretta Jo Walker. He was a loving father and grandfather, always participating in his son’s and grandchildren’s activities. Most will remember him for his service to the Maritime Union and his love of the City of Port Arthur, but his legacy is the love he had for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. Survivors include his wife Latretta Jo Walker, Groves; son Jeff Terrell and wife Beth, Groves. Sisters, Dorothy Clark, Alamo, Georgia and Ellen Phagan and husband Dewitt of Alamo, Georgia, Loraine and husband Ernest Jones of Danville, Georgia and Hazel Brooks of Glenwood, Georgia; brother, Paul Walker and wife Joyce, Dublin, Georgia. Grandchildren, Jeffery Charles and Jennifer Terrell and great grand daughter, Kallee Jo all of Groves and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 21, 2008 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel of Clayton - Thompson Funeral Home, Groves, Texas, with Dr. Joe Worley, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Groves officiating. Interment to follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
