Dorian JaReem GobertThomas “Dodie”

Dorian JaReem Gobert Thomas departed his earthly home March 1, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Brenham, Texas.

He was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur, TX. Dorian was a graduate of Abe Lincoln High School, graduating with the Class of 1997. Dorian was a remarkable son, brother, father and friend. He touched the lives of everyone he met. Dorian was a fun loving man. Dorian was born to Jacqueline and Donald Thomas on March 31, 1978. Dorian is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jacqueline Thomas and Benjamin George; his father, Donald Thomas; 2 children, Keeman Williams and Dionna Thomas, all of Port Arthur; his grandmother, Ethel Gobert of Port Arthur; 2 sisters, DaNaySha Thomas and Maya Jones of Port Arthur; 3 aunts, Margaret Foreman (Jimmie), JoAnn (Lloyd) Jones, and Angel (Royal) Marsh, all of Port Arthur; 8 uncles, Clarence (Jackie) Gobert, Perry (Brenda) Gobert, Chatman (Ronda) Gobert, all of Port Arthur, Charles Thomas of Beaumont, Calvin (Wanda) Thomas, Michael Thomas of Port Arthur, Reginald (Paulette) Thomas of League City, and Donald Ford of Beaumont; 1 niece, LaNiyah Thomas; and 1 nephew, Christion Thomas. Dorian is preceded in death by his grandparents, Morris and Ruby Thomas; aunt, Alberta Ford; and uncle, Anthony Thomas.

Visitation will be Friday night from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at New Jerusalem Baptist Church followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. Services intrusted to Gabriel Funeral Home.



Maureen Alpough Kemper

Maureen Alpough Kemper of Port Arthur died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur, TX. She was a resident of Port Arthur for 42 years. She was also the 1st lady of New Life Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rita Alpough; brothers, Johnny and Michael Alpough; niece, A’nyria January; sister- in-law, Nancy Alpough and Aunt Rose Jones. She leaves behind her loving husband, Pastor E. Glenn Kemper; son, Marcus Kemper; and two daughters, Dominique Kemper and Kirsten McDaniel; step-children, Tonya Kemper, Elroy Kemper, Jr., Crystal Kemper, Courtney Kemper, Endia Kemper, and Nikita Cox of Atlanta, GA; and 20 grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory her father, Vincent Alpough, Sr.; brothers and sisters, Vincent Alpough, Jr. (Julie), Hazel January (Tom), Curtis Alpough (Sherold), Myra Williams (Fredwin), Anita Tyler (Alvin) and Laura Alpough (Tim) all of Port Arthur, TX, Cynthia Glasper (Jerald) of Beaumont, TX and Lionel Alpough (Sarah) of Abbeville, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Thomas Kemper officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.



Evelyn Ned“La Pone”

PORT ARTHUR - Evelyn Ned, 93 of Port Arthur, TX, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at St. Mary Hospital. She was a life-long resident of Port Arthur, TX. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday at East Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Arthur Trainer, officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home. Survivors include: three daughters, Lou Hilda Perkins of Port Arthur, TX, Linda Robertson of Houston, TX, and Brenda Brown of Port Arthur, TX; two sons, Loubert Ned of Port Arthur, TX and Clifton Ned Jr. of Port Arthur, TX; one son-in-law, Richard Brown of Port Arthur, TX; one step-daughter, CElla Dennis of Port Arthur, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.



Steve Kersey

GROVES- Steve Kersey, 54, long-time Groves resident, passed away at Christus St. Mary on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.

Steve, a former Texaco employee and construction pipe fitter, was forced into early retirement due to a motorcycle accident in 2006. Steve is survived by mother, Olevia Kersey; brother, Herby Kersey; daughter, Stevie Kersey; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Chad Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Casha Kersey. He was delighted by his three grandchildren, Aiden and Avery Fitzgerald, Trapper Kersey, and step-grandson, Fisher Tate.

Memorial will be held at a later date.



Harry T. Jones

PORT ARTHUR - Harry T. Jones, 87 of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont, Texas. Harry was born, August 11, 1920 in Charlestown, Ohio to Elmer Jones and Margaret Smith Jones. He was a resident of Port Arthur since 1944. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard in WWII, stationed at the Lighthouse in Sabine Pass, Texas He worked as a Supervisor Clerk at the Texaco Island from 1945 until retirement in 1983. Harry had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening as well as fishing with his sons and spending time with Friends and Family.

He was preceded in death by the Love of his Life, Mary Alice Jones and brother Ralph Jones of Garrettsville, Ohio and sister in law Dorothy Scott of Nederland, Texas. He is survived by his two sons, Donald Jones and wife Janet of Hemphill, Texas and Thomas Jones of Port Arthur, Texas, his brother David Jones and wife Peggy of Newton Falls, Ohio, sister in law, Alma Jones of Garrettsville, Ohio, brothers in law, W. L. Scott of Nederland, Texas, Bobby Gates and wife Nancy of Village Creek, Texas and three granddaughters, Brenda Allen and husband, Conly of Lumberton, Texas, Becky Babin and husband Mike of Orange, Texas and Nicole Ford of Boise, Idaho. Six great-grandchildren, who warmed his heart, Christopher Allen, Haley Allen, Brayden Babin, Zachary Babin, as well as nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at the Clayton Thompson Chapel, Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 10:00 A.M with internment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.



Jessie L. Bowie Sr.

PORT ARTHUR - Mr. Jessie L. Bowie Sr. of Port Arthur, Texas departed this life Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at his home. A native of Jasper, he was a resident of Port Arthur, Texas for 40 years.

His mother, Willie Mae Bowie Vital and his father, Dumas Vital, his grandfather, Jack Bowie, an aunt Elmora Cauley, of Kirbyville, Texas, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 23 years, Ruby Bowie of Port Arthur, Texas; one son, Jessie Bowie Jr. of Leander, Texas; two daughters, Shirley Bluiett of Sacramento, California, Shelia Bowie of Houston, Texas; step-daughter, Farrisa Reynolds (Bradford) of Port Arthur, Texas; a special spiritual son, Johnny Ray Brown (Angela) of Port Arthur, Texas; four grandchildren, Preston Bluiett, Sacramento, California, Brandi Price, Houston, Texas, Brandon Bowie, Beaumont, Texas, Gene Holbert II, Houston, Texas, step-granddaughter, Emetrice Mouton, Port Arthur, Texas, eight great grandchildren; two special relatives, Clifford Traylor of Jasper, Texas, Johnny Hadnot (Marva), of Houston, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wake will be held Friday, March 7, 2008 from 6-9PM at Gabriel Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Huff Creek Memorial Society; County Road 278 in Jasper, Texas.
