GROVES- John, 81, of Groves, Texas passed away on March 6, 2007 at his home after a long illness.
He was born in Crowley, Louisiana and lived in the Port Arthur area since he was 15 years old. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Port Arthur. John was employed at Gulf Oil as an operator and retired after 30 years of service. He served in U.S. Marine Corp during WWII, Korean Conflict and the Battle of Iwo Jima with the Fourth Marine Division as a First Sergeant and retired from the corp. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves.
John is survived by his wife, Verna Landry of 61 years, his daughter FlorenceDollins of Groves, son John W. Landry, Jr. and his wife, Liz of Groves, Texas. Also a daughter who has passed Carolyn Landry. He is also survived by three grandkids, Patrick Dollins and his wife, Pat, Chris Dollins and his wife, Grace and Jessica Landry. He is also survived by six step grandkids, Airman 1st Class Cody, who is in the U. S. Air Force, Chris Garman, Brittany, Kayla, Katie and John Charles. He is survived by seven great grandkids, Logan, Jaden Dollins, Chris Jr., Carolyn, Brandon, Kylie and Jayden.He is also survived by his sister, Lucille Hebert of Bridge City and his brother, Wilson Landry of Groves as well several nieces and nephews.
He was loved by many friends and family and he will be missed. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5 P.M. to 10 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Directors.
NEDERLAND - Ervin Savoy, 87, of Nederland, Texas passed away March 6, 2007. He was born November 17, 1919 in Nederland, Texas to the late Cline D. and Eurine Theriot Savoy. He was employed with the City of Nederland for over 30 years and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Boudreaux Savoy of Silsbee; daughter, Wanda Jacks and husband, Roy of Silsbee; sister, Emma Adaway of Nederland; and grandson, Chris Jacks of Silsbee. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Erma Lee Laurents. Visitation will be Thursday, March 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Heritage.
Services will be Friday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland, Rev. Shane Baxter officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
PORT ARTHUR - Calvin James (Cal-Low) Warrick, 58, of Port Arthur died Monday, March 5, 2007. He was a native of Port Arthur but moved to Los Angeles, California upon graduation at Lincoln High School. He was employed as a machinist at Lockheed Aircraft in California but moved back to Port Arthur in the 70’s. His last employment was at Coastal Enterprise in Beaumont, Texas. He joined and became a member of Thomas Blvd Church of Christ. A wake is scheduled at Thomas Blvd Church of Christ from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning and the funeral service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Cory Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory two daughters, Carolyn Warrick and Felicia (Lisa) Warrick Carmon and his daughter’s mother Brenda Wise; three grandchildren, Myles Carmon, Eryn Carmon and Destinee Carmon and a son-in-law, Gerald Carmon all who live in California; his father Louis Warrick Sr., one sister Carolyn Warrick both of Port Arthur and one brother Louis Warrick Jr. of League City, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alice Evelyn Blanchard
TYLER - Memorial services for Alice Evelyn Blanchard, 91, of Tyler, formerly of Groves, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Groves. Mrs. Blanchard passed away February 26, 2007 in a Tyler hospice. She was born May 9, 1915 in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to the late Emmanuel Gillette and Palmy Broussard. She graduated from Orangefield High School in 1934, was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church in Groves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Paul Blanchard in 1998, and a brother, Ferris Gillette. Her survivors include her children, Abbie Lough of Tyler, Levi P. Blanchard of Baton Rouge, La., June Waddill of Fayetteville, Ark.; sisters, Laura Eiseman, Leta Bristol, Lois Gilliam, Gay Connis, Maudie Hidy; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
