Daniel Gordon Avery
HOUSTON - Daniel Gordon Avery, 16, of Houston died in an automobile accident Sunday, January 21, 2007. He was born May 4, 1990 in Houston, Texas. Daniel was a current student at Waltrip High School, after attending Lamar High School his Freshman and Sophomore years. Daniel enjoyed most sports, but he especially loved music and his endless group of friends. Daniel is survived by his mother and step father, Becky and Mike McCullough; father, Daniel Avery; sister, Hannah Avery; step-sister, Chelsea McCullough; step-brother, Michael McCullough II; grandparents, Virginia Avery, Jane and Gordon Covington, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 4300 North Shepherd, Houston. Ewell Freeman Sr.
PORT ARTHUR - Ewell Freeman, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on January 19, 2007 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. He was born December 15, 1919 to the late Ben Freeman and Loretta Edwards in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Ewell moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1947 where he worked at Texaco Refinery for 38 years and retired as an operator. He was a faithful member of First United Pentecostal Church in Port Arthur, Texas. Ewell was united in marriage to the late Victoria Arvie and to this union were four daughters. One daughter (Joyce Whitsey) preceded him in death. He was also united in marriage to Mary Lou Dupree on April 17, 1956 and to this union there were seven children, three daughters and four sons. Ewell leaves to mourn his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Lou Freeman; Six daughters, Clara Jean Campbell, Linda Harris, Barbara Chambers, Debora (Al) Mann, Beverly (Larry) Joseph all of Houston, TX, and Cheryl Freeman Williams of Port Arthur, TX; Four sons, Ewell (Cathy) Freeman Jr., Ricky (Beverly) Freeman both of Port Arthur, TX, Donald (Vanessa) Freeman of Houston, TX, and Derek (Pat) Freeman of Fort Worth, TX; one sister, Audrey (Sheppard) Thomas of Ville Platte, LA; thirty grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation is scheduled from 9 am - 11 am on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at First United Pentecostal Church. Funeral services are scheduled at 11 am at First United Pentecostal Church with Bishop B.H. McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
NEDERLAND - Juanita Perkins, 82, of Nederland, passed away, Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Promise Specialty Hospital in Nederland. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 26, 2007 at the First Church of God, 3800 Jimmy Johnson, Port Arthur with Pastor Bob Arnold officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Broussard’s in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 PM Thursday at the mortuary. Mrs. Perkins was a native of DeQuincy, Louisiana and lived in Nederland for 60 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God in Port Arthur. Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her husband, B.E. Perkins, her daughter, Roxie Perkins and her son, Steve Perkins. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sue Perkins of Nederland, and her son-in-law, Raymond Ramirez of Port Arthur; four grandchildren, Randy Perkins, Gary Perkins, Ryan Ramirez, and Reagan Ramirez; six great grandchildren, Tyler Ramirez, Rae Ann Ramirez, Kobe Ramirez, Justice Ramirez, Brie-Anne Perkins, and Hayden Perkins.
PORT ARTHUR - Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Edward "Box" Ward, 62, will be held Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Hannah Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of servivces. Burial will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, La. Mourning his departure are: his son, Aaron Ward; two daughters, Lea Joseph and Brenda Joubert and five grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
PORT ARTHUR - Irene Lowrey, 77, of Port Arthur, departed this life, Monday, January 22, 2007, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, after a long courageous battle against cancer. A native of DeRidder, Louisiana, she lived most of her life in Southeast Texas. She worked many years at Mid Jefferson Hospital, and later retired from the Transportation Dept. of Jasper ISD. Most recently, she was a homemaker whose generous spirit and faith inspired all who knew her. Mrs. Lowrey was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Curtis H. Lowrey, and her brother, Walter Hildabrandt. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Broussard’s in Nederland at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 26, 2007. Interment will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park, in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the mortuary. Mrs. Lowrey is survived by her two sons, James C. Lowrey and wife, Vikkie of Kountze, and Charles Ralph Lowrey and wife, Jackie of St. Ignatius, MT, and brother, Edward Hildabrandt of Bridge City. She also leaves precious memories with her grandchildren, Curtis A. Lowrey of Pflugerville, TX, Heather Taylor of Lumberton, Amanda Gilbert of Denton, TX, and Christin Lowrey of Beaumont. Also left to cherish her loving spirit are 8 great - grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, her devoted companion and friend, Nealon Miller Segrest of Port Arthur, and numerous relatives and friends.
Joseph Guillory departed this life on January 21, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital. A wake service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Gabriel Funeral Home from 6 pm to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in Lawtell, LA. Joseph was born December 19, 1931 in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Ellis and Philomena Jones Guillory. He was a resident of Port Arthur for 55 years and a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a former worker for Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 for several years and a retired construction worker and member of Local Labor Union No. 853 of Port Arthur. He is survived by his wife, Betty Guillory; seven daughters, Carolyn Trice (Eugene), Emma Clayton (Calvin), Cynthia Gunner (Charles) all of Port Arthur; Josie Morgan (Dan) of San Antonio, TX; Rhonda Brown (Kenneth) of Port Arthur, TX; Rhoda Doffeny of Arlington, TX; and Stephanie Kelly of Colorado; four sons, Joseph Guillory (Linda) of Port Arthur, TX; Herbert Guillory of Livingston, TX, Keith Guillory (Barbara) of San Antonio, TX, and Lee Doffeny of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Mary Amos and Elnora Allen of Lawtell, LA; two brothers, Adam Guillory of Springfield, LA, and Ulysses Guillory of Opelousas, LA; step-daughter, Natsha Hammond; he also leaves thirty- four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
