Dorothy Gladys Reynolds Dailey

— Dorothy Gladys Reynolds Dailey, 89, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Her final days were spent at home in Kingwood, lovingly attended by her daughter, Kathy Horton.

Dorothy Dailey was the only daughter of Lewis Frank “Dick” Reynolds and Ivy Gladys Philpott Reynolds. She was born September 17, 1923 in Port Acres (now a suburb of Port Arthur), Jefferson County, Texas, and was the first person in her family to be born in the United States. Ten members of her family had emigrated from Whitstable, Kent, England shortly before her birth. Her maternal grandfather, father, uncle, and husband all worked for the Texas Company (later Texaco) at the Port Arthur Refinery.

She attended public schools in Port Acres, where she lived for most of her life. She married Preston Joseph Dailey on February 28, 1946. The couple had four daughters. The family attended Calvary Baptist Church of Port Acres, where she and Preston were baptized.

She was a kind and loving mother, who enjoyed nothing more than caring for her family. Her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren returned her affection, and always loved their visits with “Nanny.”

Dorothy Dailey is survived by her daughters:  Joyce Lorraine Bray, Ivy Jean Sky-Eagle, Camilla Ann Dailey and Kathy Sue Horton, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and other family and friends. Preston preceded her in death on July 8, 1976.
