The Port Arthur News

—    Leda Bess “Beth” Cuccio -March 18, 1928-January 14, 2013 Is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Vincent Charles Cuccio; parents, Louis and Essie Melancon; brother, Burkin; and sister, Marilyn. Melancon, Jr. and Betty Simar.

Leda Bess was a vibrant, fun, quick witted, compassionate, understanding, encouraging, devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  A true matriarch, she had an undeniable faith in family and God.   She was a force to be reckoned with, with a fierce attitude and a wit hard to be matched.  She met and married her husband Vince in 1944.   They met on Halloween and married on December 23 of that year.  Her father, who knew her well, had a singular sentiment to express to Vince on the day he asked for his daughter’s hand, a quote from him that has lasted through generations and allows even his great- great grandchildren to hear his voice.   “Well, Vince, You sure you can handle her.   She is HELL ON WHEELS.   You let me know if you can use some help.”  That was Leda in a word, enjoying every moment of her life with those she loved and the husband she adored.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00, noon, on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas, Father Sinclair Oubre celebrant.  Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Serving as Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jimmy and Vince Duplissey, Gabe and Dean Abshire, Bradley and Joshua Cuccio; and great-grandsons, Matthew Duplissey and Riley Abshire.

Special thanks to Mrs. Leda’s amazing caregivers and friends:  Pandora, Lanett, Chrystal, and Irma.  They have been her angels over these last few years helping the family to enrich the quality of her life.
