Bernadine Hawkins Ducote

The Port Arthur News

PORT ARTHUR —    Bernadine Hawkins Ducote 71, entered into eternal peace on Thursday June 13, 2013, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.

Bernadine was born on July 30, 1941 to a daughter of the late Elijah Bob Hawkins and Laura Hawkins. She grew up in the Cajun city of Longville, LA where she later made her way to Port Arthur, Tx. Here she found love to which she married the late Nolen Ducote. Soon after his death the absence of him left her heart empty waiting to be filled. Later on that empty spot grew to be filled with children.

Her love for children was one of the most remarkable things you've ever seen. As she fostered over 86 she fell in love with 8 whom she adopted as her own. When that heart was filled she spent her life as a stay at home single mother instilling; wisdom, faith and most of all love in her children. As well as her superior mother ship she was also a wonderful friend. She had a heart of gold and anyone who ever came in her presence was drawn by her love and compassion.

She gave her life to Christ years ago where she fed her spirit at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist church. She lived a happy life as a woman of God and with not one doubt in the human mind she has reached heavens gates and salvation is hers.

Bernadine is preceded in death by her parents Elijah Hawkins and Laura Hawkins, her sisters Martha Massey, Mary Lee Brown and her late husband Nolen Ducote.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her daughters; Tiffany Ducote, Nicole Ducote, Pateroney Ducote-Coke, Doretha Ducote, Brittany Ducote, Tierra Ducote and Kayla Ducote; her one son Kenneth Griffin Ducote; special niece and nephews Willie Ann Brown, Jessie Mae Sias, Erick and Derick Brown; her companion Collins Ross Vital Sr.; 11 grand kids and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday June 22, 2013. The viewing will be from 9-11 and the service will began at 11:00 am. It will be held at Mt. Siani Missionary Baptist Church. 501 West Thomas Blvd. Port Arthur, TX 77640.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to 615 5th Avenue Port Arthur, TX 77642.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, The Mt. Sinai church family, Gabriel funeral home and everyone who offered their condolences.
