PORT ARTHUR —
Mertha Benoit Wiltz, Age 88, of Port Arthur moved to her heavenly home while surrounded by family and friends at her home on April 9, 2014. A native of Lafayette, LA she was a resident of Port Arthur, TX. Mertha, (also affectionately known as “Big Mom” and “Begay”) was a loving, caring person who loved her children, grandchildren, family and friends unconditionally.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wiltz, Sr., parents, Joshuah Benoit and Olivia Guillory; 5 sisters, and 6 brothers. She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Mary Catholic Church for over 60 years.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: 2 sons: Glenn “T-Boy” Wiltz (Valerie) of Port Arthur and Edward “Ba Ba” Wiltz, Jr. (Dianathia) of Beaumont; 5 daughters: Mertha Hancock (Artemus), Marcella “Poon” Royal (John), Sarah Wiltz all of Port Arthur, Sandra Daniels (Marvin) of Houston and Laura Wiltz of Euless, TX; 31 grandchildren, 48 great -grandchildren, 7 great- great grandchildren; a special niece, Mary “Patty” Shannon; a devoted friend, Olivia Schiele; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart/St. Mary Catholic Church of Port Arthur. Family visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a rosary at 10:15 a.m. Her final resting place will be in Johnson Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
