Ruth “Alkie” Peagler, 94, of Fannett passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013 in Port Arthur. Alkie was born September 14, 1919 in Port Arthur to the late Manuel Alvarez and Agnes Almond Alvarez. Alkie was a loving wife, devoted mother and proud grandmother to her family. Alkie enjoyed cooking for her family, watching the food channel and was an avid reader. Alkie loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by many.
Alkie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 47 years, Butch Peagler, son, Jay Peagler, brothers, Manuel Alvarez and Johnny Alvarez.
Alkie is survived by her daughters, Ruth Ann Peagler of Port Arthur; Rose Nelson of Fannett; grandchildren, Jay Nelson, Nathan Peagler and Jordan Nelson; great grandchildren, Madison Rose Nelson, Charlie Peagler and Katelyn Peagler; nieces, Glenda Tutt of Lufkin, Linda “Bubbles” Luttrell, Cindy Jones and Susie Belanger; step sister, Mary Borgobello of Nederland; sister in laws, Jane Driskell of Leesburg, Mississippi; and Ruth Peagler of Pearl, Mississippi.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
